MALAYSIAN TRADITIONAL DANCE


There are three main ethnic groups in Malaysia which are Malay, Chinese and Indian. Hence, we can find out that each ethnic group have their own traditional dance. Let me share something about these three main ethnic groups' dance.

Malay Traditional Dance 
  • There are 11 types of Malay traditional dance in Malaysia such as Asyik, Dikir Barat, Joget, Mak Inang, Mak Yong, Menora, Rodat, Ronggeng, Sewang Dance, Ulek Mayang and Zapin.

Chinese Traditional Dance 
  • There are 4 types of Chinese traditional dance such as Chinese Folk, Classical and Minority dances, Chinese Ballet and Contemporary Chinese Dance.

IndianTraditional Dance 

  • There are many types of Indian traditional dance. Among the popular folk dances are the bhangra of the Punjab, the bihu of Assam, the chhau of Jharkhand and Orissa, the ghoomar of Rajasthan, the dandiya and garba of Gujarat, the Yakshagana of Karnataka and lavani of Maharashtra and Dekhnni of Goa.
